Tillison had the opportunity to get baptized on September 24th, 2011. It was the day before Jared's farewell so luckily we had all the cousins together for it.

John is engaged to Karlee Mcghan

On July 15, 2011 John surprised Karlee by proposing to her at Petes fish and chips.

John met Karlee when she was working there

It was only fitting that he ask her at Pete's since that is his favorite place to eat.

The ladies working at Petes were in on the surprise and called Karlee to the window for her order and gave her a box with a ring in it instead of french fries.

Jenna Allen was awesome and helped John get Karlee to Petes and filmed the whole thing
We are excited to have Karlee join our family. All the grandkids love her especially Mayley and Lacey, I think because she paints their fingernails. We were seating around the table eating and teasing I asked Karlee why all the grandkids loved her. Bridger piped up and said "because she's beautiful" After Bridger said that he immediately turned red. It was so cute.

Jared received his mission call to Eugene, Oregon

On June 24, 2011 Jared received his white envelope containing his mission call.

We were heading to the bear reunion so he took his call so he

could open it there.

After dinner everyone gathered around to watch him open his call

We had cell phones by him so Briana, James and Brooke could hear
where he would be serving

Jared was worried that he would not be able to pronounce

where he was called. He started reading his call and he said that

he was called to the Oregon, Eugene mission and we thought

he was teasing since that is where James served his mission.

After he found out he was going to Eugene he picked up the phone

and talked with James as they were both so excited.

Everyone is excited for Jared's call and he will be leaving Sept 28th.

We are so proud of him. I don't think there are to many

This Easter weekend we held our 1st Reed Rodeo.

We had several events like dummy roping, wheelbarrow and 3-legged races,

water balloon and egg toss, rawhide race a chicken chase,

stick horse and barrel racing and an easter egg hunt.

We had a grand time and everyone won an award.

Carson, Briley, Caleb and Devin are all ready for the events

and checking the schedule.

Ashton was worried that he wouldn't be able to compete in
any of the events since he broke his arm the week before.

He did great though and caught the steerhead on his first throw.

John did a great job helping the kids and Dayton and Tillison are waiting

for their turn to come.

One of the funnest events was the wheelbarrow race.
We started out with the older kids running with the younger kids in the wheelbarrows.

They did awesome and we didn't have to many wrecks

Calvin is taking Lacey for a ride

After the kids all had their turn the moms got to be competitive

Then the husbands got to push their wives. I was a little nervous with James in

our heat. He would come after you as soon as the race started to try and tip you over.

For the younger kids 3 legged race we tied them together at the waist.

It proved rather comical and they were creative in accomplishing the race.

The older kids got their legs tied together

We also had a gunny sack race or I should say pillow sack race.

Some did good hopping where the little kids were able to just run

inside the pillow case.

We also got some baby chickens for the kids to catch.

Chisolm is so happy.

Amazingly none of the chicks got smashed as the kids went after them

We also didn't lose any chicks from getting handled either

Brogan was happy someone handed him a chick

We had a rawhide race where they tied a goat hide to a rope and they

pulled it behide a horse. Chisolm got the hide and pulled it behide

his trusty stick horse.

Chisolm got a chance to be the rider on the hide

Brogan and Tessa loved their ride

Chisolm gave Jayla a practice ride behind his stick horse

before she got behind a live horse. James was a proud daddy.

Daisy May Richardson

On January 14, 2011 we added a new granddaughter to our family.

Daisy May Richardson was born.

She weighed 7 lbs and 3 ounces

She was born at 11:50 pm

Ben was able to deliver his cute little daughter and will make

a great obstetricion.

She was a beautiful little girl

Brian is very talents and skillful and these

are a few of the pictures of some of the work

he has done for a custom home

This is a chandelier made out of 2 tire irons and

an old wagon hub.

He built it in two sections just so they could install it as it was pretty heavy. This is one of the 8 hub scones that he made.

He did all the hardware on this amazing custom door.

Old Queen Creek Tunnel and Hwy 60

Brian delivered some custom work to Top of the World

so Jared and went to see the house and on our way home

we stopped at the Queen Creek Tunnel east of

Superior and we always wanted to see the old tunnel.

We walked down to the east side of the old tunnel

not knowing what to expected.

It was an pretty cool tunnel so we started through it

We are about half way through and can see the light at the end of the tunnel

Looking back at what we just went through.

It must have been a big job to build this tunnel all

those years ago.

Can you imagine driving a model A through this tunnel?

We decided to walked the old highway down to Superior

This bridge looks amazingly big from underneath

We were amazed and wondered how they built this bridge

and grateful to travel to Globe relatively easy today.

We loved looking at the old bridges and to see a piece of history

We had an enjoyable walk and highly recommend it.

When all the kids were here for Thanksgiving they

all got their instruments out and had fun playing together again.

kids tractor. They then threw a ball so the dogs would fetch it and pull

On our way back to Arizona we stopped at an old

Ghost Town in New Mexico called Cuervo.

It was right on I-40 and we enjoyed the break and

exploring around.

This was a two room school house

It was actually pretty cool

The old schoolhouse had wooden floors

There was an old cook stove that someone left

We made sandwiches and enjoyed resting in the shade

Weston enjoyed the break to get out of his car seat

Combine City south of Amarillo only allows

combines to reside within its limits

They even have it fenced all the way around

so no people are allowed in the city limits

The combines are buried so only half of them can be seen

We were amazed how many are there

There are all different makes, models and years

I wish we had grass this tall

Texas also has unique art work

Christmas day we all went to Briana and Ben's house since they have a bigger room than we have and we pretty much filled it up too.

We have a tradition to eat deviled eggs Christmas morning. Jared and James don't like them. Since Jared wouldn't eat his we wrapped it up and put it under the Christmas tree for him. He wasn't to excited about that gift but Brooke and I thought it was funny.

Chrismas benches

For Christmas this year we wanted to give the kids something that would last awhile and that would help them remember this Christmas. Brian and I decided to build each of the families a bench from all the antiques that we have around our place. With the help of Brooke, Nich, and Jared we were able to finish all of them Christmas Eve.

Picture of one of the benches. One bench has 26 used horseshoes, 2 hames, and a singletree. Brian and Nich built all the wheels using used horseshoes as the spokes. All the lumber we had around here that Jared cut, sanded and finished. We had a great time building them and Brooke and Nich didn't know they were building their own Christmas present.

John's visa came through and he arrived in Mexico yesterday. He called home and everyone was able to talk to him and fill his excitement for missionary work. Grandparent's Day

Grandparent's Day was last week at the boy's school. Grandma and Grandpa Reed went and spent time in Caleb and Carson and Calvin's classes. Calvin did some math worksheets while they were there.

There was a bookfair at the school and they had a jungle theme. So they visited the library.

Carson wrote an essay about Grandma and Grandpa Reed that I thought was cute. Here it is:

"My Grandpa Read used to be a rodeo coyboy and a cop. My Grandma used to play baseball. My Grandma Richardson is a teacher she teaches 1st grade. My Grandpa Richardson is always smiling. My Grandma and Grandpa Reed taught me to brand a cow. When you brand a cow you have to have a long peice of medal with you initials at the end. Then you burn the end. When your done you put the end on the cow's back side. That how you brand a cow. My Grandparnets also taught me how to ride a horse. Before you ride a horse you put a satel on the horse. After that is done you get on the horse's back. When you are on you kick the horse on the side. That's how you get the horse to go."

Back in August, Dad asked if the grandkids that were in town could come and help him move the two calves from the back corrals to the front pasture.

Don't worry folks, the sticks were used for guiding and directing the calves so they wouldn't run past the kids in the wrong direction.

I think that Devin just talked to himself the whole walk up front. He didn't even care that he wasn't in the middle of all the action.

Cousins John Reed and Jake Stowell reported to the MTC on the same day. John is going to the Mexico City East Mission and Jake to the Halifax Canada mission.
I had to take a picture of John and Jakes new shoes as they will see lots of miles put on them soon.

Trip to Salt Lake City

We spent Tuesday in Salt Lake City. Mom and Jared went and did baptism and Brian and John went through a session.

John and Jared were getting restless on the drive up so they would see who could make the silliest face. I'm not sure who won as they both made pretty silly faces.

After Jared and I were done in the Temple, we got to walk around Temple Square together. All the Sister Missionaries thought that Jared was leaving on his mission, as he spent two days in a suit. He looked so handsome and grown up.

In June, Jared hurt his foot by riding his 3-wheeler and running into a huge post sticking out of the ground. I'm going to have to have his tell the story in his own words because I wouldn't do it justice. Here are pictures of the next day. He was in a LOT of PAIN! Poor guy. He's doing a lot better now. He has to go to physical therapy though.

For Mom's Birthday, we took her to Chatterbox to look around. We all walked out of that stores with boots. Mom bought a pair, so did I, and Brittany and Briley, and even Ben! Then we went next door and bought some Thrifty ice cream.

We tried our best to keep the boys contained. So we found a chair in the dressing room and they sat there for awhile (probably because they liked posing for the pictures). Whatever works!

Mexico City East Mission

Our Girls Only Weekend!

This is a pretty long post, so beware! A month or so ago we had a Girls ONLY Weekend and we had so much fun! The only bad thing that happened was no one had a camera! So we went to the grocery store and bought a cheep film one. I didn't realize how spoiled I am with digital.

We all drove up to Brooke's house in Holbrook (before she moved). We went up on Friday and came home on Saturday. We spent alot of time driving. But isn't it the journey that makes the trip? One of my favorite parts of the trip was when we did the gift exchange. Each person brought a gift for every person. So we all went home with a bag full of goodies: lotion, Willow Tree Statues, braclets, candles, homemade cards, leather key rings, and the homemade bag to put it all in.

We stopped by and picked up some Subway and ate at a canyon that is in the middle of nowhere.

You can't be in Holbrook and not take a picture by the dinosaurs!

We all met in Globe and then drove up to Holbrook in my Yukon XL, and we left Brittany's car in the Wal-Mart parking lot. On the way home, her car wouldn't start and we couldn't get the starter to cooperate. So, since it is a standard transmission, we decided to push it while Brittany let out the clutch. And it worked! But Brittany had to get gas and it wouldn't start again, so we had to push start it again. We were laughing so hard. I bet that we were quite the sight to see!

Thanks to all the husbands and families who watched kids while we could do this. We will definitely have to do it again.

What caught on fire?

The big cottonwood tree!! It was the most beautiful tree when we first moved into that house. We put a big rope swing in the tree and would swing over the sump. (the pond that would hold all the left over irrigation water) Then they dried up the sump and the pour tree got so thirsty and soon feel over. About two weeks ago I was down in QC for my dad's birthday and I just left Briana's house and was heading down Rittenhouse when I smelt smoke. When I turned onto Cloud I saw smoke coming from mom and dad's house. Which isn't uncommon, we have bon fires there all the time so I assumed we were doing that for dinner to celebrate dad's birthday. When I was about to turn into the drive way I saw the fire trucks. That pour tree caught on fire and it was huge. It was a couple of days before the tree quit smoking. There is always something exciting going on at the Reed house.

Rattlesnakes!

Guess what we found at Grandma and Grandpa's house? You guessed it! Rattlesnakes! Yikes!

These are the biggest rattlesnakes that any of us have ever seen! They were huge!

At the time we only thought that there was one, but there were two down there hiding under the sticks by the creek.
Between Conference Sessions on Sunday, all the kids were out playing. When I called them into eat Devin was running as fast as he could, crying and calling my name. I ran out to see him and he said that there was a rattlesnake. I didn't think that he knew what a rattlesnake was. He kept saying that it was moving and then he would put his hand up in the air and move it back and forth. It looked like the motion that the rattles would make. He kept talking about it and he was really scared. So Ben walked down there and Jared met him with a gun. Ben said a prayer that if there really was a snake that they would find it. Soon after that, Jared yelled out that he found it. It was near the creek where the water from the sump drains into the creek. It is all dried up right now. But he saw the snake down in the little gorge under some old mesquite tree that fell down. He started shooting at it. Ben ran in and told us that Jared found it and we went out to see. I told all the kids to stay, but I took Devin with me so we could put some closure on the rattlesnake for him. James took the pitchfork and got the snakes out from under the sticks and there were two! We were all surprised. They were gigantic! The rattles were huge! We are so blessed that Devin was safe. I truly believe that someone was watching out for him.

Reed Family Breakfast

On March 29, we had an extended family breakfast with all of the Reed's. It was alot of fun to see all of the cousins and Aunts and Uncles. And the food was great! Before everyone left we got a picture of all of Ma and Pa's children.
